The design of American Eagle Type 2 gold coins differs from the original version on the reverse and features a very detailed depiction of the head of this bird of prey. It is a design by Jennie Norris. The obverse of this gold coin, however, remains unchanged and shows Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ illustration of “Walking Liberty”, the goddess of freedom.
