This is the 1 Oz Australian Nugget - Welcome Stranger 2019 silver coin. It is a speciale edition release by the Australian Perth Mint in celebration of the largest gold nugget ever found in Australia. The coin is minted in 99.99% pure silver with a weight of 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) and in a limited edition of just 30,000 coins for worldwide trade.
Design of the 1 Oz Australian Nugget - Welcome Stranger 2019
As its name suggests, this coin has been designed in honour of a very special gold nugget. In fact it is the largest gold nugget ever found in 1869 by John Deason Richard Oates who dug it out of the earth in Australia. The nugget had a whopping weight of 72 kilos. Next to the illustration, the design includes information on the coin’s weight and purity together with the text “Welcome Stranger 1869”. The reverse of the coin features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, head of the British Commonwealth.
