Origin of the Dutch Gold Ducat
The Dutch Gold Ducat was minted in The Netherlands from 1586 by the individual provinces. The face of the coin is traditionally decorated with the image of a knight and the reverse is embellished with text. These original Ducat coins remained in production until 1808. After this period the Dutch Gold Ducat became a trading coin and was minted at the central location of the Royal Dutch Mint in Utrecht. Dutch Gold Ducats have been traded as investment and collectable gold coins since 1982.
